Holiday Shipping Options and Times

Production and Shipping are managed entirely by the printer, Lulu.com. For a detailed look at their options, including holiday shipping times, please see http://connect.lulu.com/t5/Shipping/Shipping-Times-and-Options/ta-p/33707.

Once you place an order, you should work directly with Lulu on order status, shipping, etc. If there is a quality issue with your book, please contact them directly.

What does "beta" mean?

We've tested the heck out of the site internally, but the Internets can be a wild and wooly place. We expect to learn a lot more about how the site functions, or not, during our beta period. If you're experiencing any problems at all with the site, please report them to hello@bluemonkeybooks.com so we can get them fixed.

If you find any errors in the stories, or sentences that don't parse right, or tips that don't make sense, or other language crimes, please let us know. We'll send you some love (read: coupon codes) to use once we emerge from our beta period.

Who is Lulu and why should I care?

Lulu is Lulu.com, the print-on-demand service we've chosen to print and fulfill your order. Once you have created your story and hit the Publish button, we transmit the print-ready files to Lulu, and a moment later, you'll be presented with a page on which you can order your book. If this page doesn't appear, we'll also present and email a direct link to it for you.

Lulu has done a great job during all of our print trials. We're confident in the quality of books they produce, and know they provide great service.

What is your return policy?

All of our books are printed on-demand, once you order them. Due to the expense of this process, we unfortunately cannot cancel orders, accept returns or provide refunds on these products.

The names and answers you provide in our questionnaire are not checked by a human prior to printing. We go with what you provide. You have to ensure the accuracy of the answers you enter into our form. We are not responsible for any misspelled names, and encourage you to take additional time to ensure the accuracy of your replies.

My book has been damaged or is of poor/shoddy quality unrelated to the content!

We regularly test our printers to ensure they are delivering quality products. If for some reason you receive a damaged book, you can work with Lulu directly to have it replaced. Information on this process can be found at http://connect.lulu.com/t5/Ordering/Return-Policy/ta-p/33211.

I misspelled a name!

Oh no, you didn't! You did? Really? Oh, boy. This is a super tough one, see, because the books are printed on-demand, meaning things like spelling errors you made on the form are usually on you, and we can't offer you a refund. I'll tell you what, though. We don't want any reader to have a bad reading experience with our books, so send us a note at hello@bluemonkeybooks.com and tell us your story, and maybe we can get you a discount on a re-order. Sound good?

I'm not sure about one of my answers.

For almost all of our replies, we have defaults that can "pinch hit" for you if you're not sure of one of your replies. These are designed to flow into the story seamlessly.

For what its worth, we've found that readers have a pretty high tolerance for finding a detail that may be a little bit off; this is, after all, a work of fiction, so they are pretty flexible around what the book may ascribe as their favorite cereal or recess game.

I want to change an answer for one of my readers.

Reader editing is coming later in the beta period. We'll announce on the My Readers page when it's ready.

Something in the story doesn't parse quite right.

We do our best to ensure that the information we ask for in the questionnaire will flow smoothly into the sentences it is destined to inhabit, but sometimes we get a clunker. You can help us out by dropping us a note with the clunker sentence in it and a few words about what you were thinking when you provided the answers and we'll see if we can refine how we're asking for the info we need. Unfortunately, we can't provide a refund if this happens, but if you help us improve the final product, you can expect some discount love to follow.

I'm worried about privacy and my child's safety.

As are we. We're all Dads here and nothing concerns us more than the safety of the information you provide when creating your book, and have a strict policy regarding any information we collect during the sales process that you can review here.

We strive to hit the right balance of details to make the stories believable to the reader but still relatively innocuous, such as using favorite cereal or best recess games to play.

Still, the reality is you will be presenting a child with a nice-looking book with his or her name on the cover, and ask that parents and guardians talk with the recipients about the responsibility this entails. We liken our books to the soccer and tee ball jerseys we've ordered for our own kids with their names on them. Our kids know why their name is there, and why they need to be cautious when wearing them.

A name is really the very first idea your child will take possession of and make his or her own. Our books celebrate that inclination, and we hope you will too. We're open to any suggestions you may have to help us address these concerns. If, at the end of the day, you're still uncomfortable, then please don't order a book. We don't want our product stressing you out.

I write children's stories and would like to pitch a story to you.

We are still developing our submission guidelines for folks like you. Please sign up for the list to be notified when these are available.

I have an idea for a story.

Do you mean, like, you have a cool story idea, but you're not a writer so you just want to GIVE it to us? That would totally rock, but we have to check with the boys in suits on how we can do this thing. Subscribe to our list so we can keep you looped in.
